a grander pa i'd never know
when the weather turns
even in the slightest
i pretend your big, warm hands are holding mine
and when the skies open up
washing all of the windows in sight
i make-believe we are playing tiddly-winks
flipping those little plastic discs
laughing and feeling warm inside the safety of a home
and when i feel most in doubt
when i catch myself looking up into the sky
i imagine your big eyes
smiling, always saying
don't worry, i'm not going anywhere

I have a grandpa I never knew either. He died the year i was born. His name was "Grandpa Red"...as he had my red hair.
I never knew him, but i would always visit his grave and talk to him like he and I were old friends. I've had some pretty long talks with Grandpa Red over the years, and though on earth he was never physically with me, I think in some ways, he's been my constant companion.
I sure hope someday, I get to meet him.

heather, i was so so so lucky to have had 18 years with my grandpa. he and my grandma lived 2 blocks away from us so we saw them often. it was the truest of blessings :) maybe my title was misleading? i just know there will not be another man on this earth who will be what he was to me. although he did lack a cool name like 'grandpa red'...that is straight awesome :)
xo, em
your last two posts are stunning. xoxo.
